A Word about Getting a Great Instrument

To provide your child with the best opportunity for success in learning to play a musical instrument, equipping them with a quality instrument is essential. Reputable music dealers with a full-line repair department, offer these types of instruments. New instruments from department stores or other non-music specialists are usually not of the same quality as those from companies that specialize in musical instruments. Used instruments purchased from individuals, on-line, or from pawn shops may need considerable repair work to be put into proper playing condition.

We provide a recommended list of instruments. If you have already purchased or rented an instrument for your child that is not on our recommended list or you are considering this, please contact one of the directors. We would like to evaluate the instrument. Our concern is in giving each student the best opportunity for success. In the past, it has been very frustrating for directors and students when a child's instrument does not play well and is subject to frequent repair needs. Instruments from companies without service departments are often the biggest source of frustration because they are not able to provide service after the sale of the instrument.

Where you choose to purchase or rent an instrument for your child is completely up to you. The directors just want your child to have an instrument that offers them their best chance for success. Learning to play a musical instrument is challenging, fun, and rewarding. However, if the child has an instrument that is not of sufficient quality, this process becomes frustrating and discouraging.
